How do dogs wag their tails?

Some kinds of dogs have long tails and some have short tails, but they are all built very much alike. The inside of a dog’s tail is made up of a string of bones, something like a string of big beads. Little muscles are attached to the bones. Most dogs can hold their tails up or down, or wag them from side to side, by using these little muscles.
